Help Us Continue to Build a Moral Movement
Dear Friends of the NC NAACP and Forward Together Moral Movement,
Throughout U.S. history, extremists driven by racist motivations have tried to hold onto their power by stripping power from voters of color and and fighting fusion coalitions between black brown and progressive white citizens. Their tactics have ranged from ku klux klan terror to legislation that segregates school, housing, and voting districts. Their illegal laws have often used race to gerrymander where people can live; send their kids to schools; and vote. Their goal is simple: Keep us afraid of each other. Keep us separated from each other. And thereby, keep us powerless!
Earlier last month the U.S. Supreme Court--for the 4th time in recent weeks--called out the extremists’ re-segregation tactics here in NC. The highest court affirmed the decision of a Federal Court decision that thoroughly analyzed how NC extremist leaders--Berger, Tillis, and now, Moore—hired a segregationist mapmaker to build walls through fusion voting districts, to create apartheid like districts, in violation of the 14th Amendment. Nine United States Supreme Court Justices saw through the racists’ segregated districts. The Nine spoke with one powerful voice -- as the Court did in its historic 1954 Brown decision. The 14th Amendment prohibits racial districts. Period! It’s not complicated. It’s called “equal protection.” This decision was based on the solid discovery work of NC NAACP members and our fine legal team several years ago, including the Southern Coalition for Social Justice.
Earlier the same Supreme Court ruled that North Carolina Monster Voter Suppression was also racially designed and therefore unconstitutional. Our legal/moral movement has successfully fought the race driven extremist tactics 4 times. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in our favor 4 times.
My friends, we have made several first downs in this long game. But we need to get across the goal-line. Please go on your computer, visit our donation page to donate what you can afford. We want to raise at least $100,000.00 from July 4 to August 28 2017. We have decided to put everything we have into this fight to protect and expand the franchise of voting. Help us out. Justice work takes resources.
Then watch these two videos with me.
Remember Ella Baker’s wonderful spirit, when she said, “ We who believe in freedom cannot rest, “until the killing of Black men, Black mothers’ sons is as important as the killing of White men, white mothers’ sons.”
